Kevin P. Black, MD, Elected to American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Directors

NEW ORLEANS—Orthopaedic surgeon Kevin P. Black, MD, of Hershey, Penn., was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS) at the organization’s 2010 Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

“It’s an enormous honor to be elected to the AAOS Board of Directors,” said Dr. Black.  “I’m looking forward to working with and learning from the other members of the Board and having the opportunity to contribute to our great profession and ultimately the patients for whom we care.”

Dr. Black has educated future orthopaedic surgeons for more than 20 years and currently is the chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Penn. He also is the team physician for the Hershey Bears professional hockey team.

Dr. Black earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, N.Y., and completed his internship at the New York University Medical Center. He returned to the University of Rochester for his orthopaedic residency training and then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Active in several professional societies, Dr. Black serves on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Additionally, he has authored 186 scientific papers, book chapters and presentations.
