Academy Board of Specialty Societies
NEW ORLEANS—Orthopaedic surgeon M. Bradford Henley, MD, MBA, was elected Board of Specialty Societies (BOS) chair at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) at its 2010 Annual Meeting.
“For more than two decades, 22 musculoskeletal specialty organizations have collaborated on issues of great importance to the entire orthopaedic community through the BOS,” Dr. Henley explained. “I am honored to serve as the chair of this group and look forward to continuing our mission of fostering unity and advocating for issues like health care reform, financial support for orthopaedic fellowship training and continuing medical education.”
Dr. Henley currently is a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. He also maintains an attending position at Harborview Medical Center, the level I trauma hospital for the region.
After earning his medical degree at the University of Washington, Dr. Henley completed an orthopaedic residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas. He then completed a trauma fellowship at Technical University of Munich in Munich, Germany.
Dr. Henley has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career, including the Harborview Medical Center Faculty Teaching Award and the Academic Faculty Teaching Award from the University of Washington. Additionally, Dr. Henley has published more than 75 articles and contributed to nearly 50 books and manuals.
Active in several professional societies, Dr. Henley is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, Washington State Medical Association, American Medical Association (AMA), Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. He also serves on the AMA’s CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) Editorial Panel, the editorial advisory board for the trauma section of Orthopaedics Today and as a consultant reviewer for the Journal and Bone and Joint Surgery.
