OrthoPitch Champion: VISIE, Inc. Takes Top Honors at AAOS 2025
SAN DIEGO (March 12, 2025)—The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) named VISIE Inc., the winner of the OrthoPitch Technology Pitch Competition during the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting in San Diego. Through the competition, AAOS, theworld’s largest medical association of musculoskeletal specialists, aims to fuel innovation and foster advancements with the potential to transform or improve existing standards of orthopaedic care.
VISIE, a 3D spatial computing platform that combines custom hardware with proprietary algorithm that revolutionizes the way technology sees anatomy, presented a novel concept focused on commercializing Spatial Computing Devices for robotic and navigated orthopaedic, neuro and spine surgery. VISIE’s Continuous Anatomic Auto Tracking (CAAT) will allow for robotic knee surgery without tracking pins, arrays or manually registering anatomy—all without sacrificing tissue or accuracy. CAAT is a proprietary, highly promising technological leap that gives the power of vision to surgical robotic and navigation systems.
“When we think about registration, we might think about 40, 100 or 350 points in a manual registration with any system on the market,” said Doug Fairbanks, president and CEO of VISIE during the live pitch event. “At the same time, VISIE will take 376,000 points, in a fraction of a second. My incredible team from VISIE wakes up every day and pushes to the very edge of what is scientifically possible to deliver a better experience for patients and surgeons.”
According to Daniel B. F. Saris, MD, PhD, who participated on the OrthoPitch judging panel, “This year’s winner has a very innovative image-based guidance system for navigation and surgical robotics that opens a new, efficient and patient focused way of improving surgical flow. The technology still allows for further development for broader application and more efficient implementation and therefore it presented a wonderful example of innovative, early phase companies that would benefit from the award package that AAOS provides.”
Presented by AAOS, OrthoPitch kicked off in May 2024 with a call for companies to submit a new technology or product concept with a focus on its impact on the practice of medicine and patient care. The AAOS Devices, Biologics and Technology (DBT) Committee conducted a multi-staged review process focusing on ease to market, reimbursement coverage, impact on market and commercialization. The top four submissions — 16 Bit, Auctus Surgical, SentryX, VISIE, Inc. — were invited to pitch their concept live to a panel of regulatory, reimbursement and commercialization experts, physicians and investors during the AAOS Annual Meeting. Audience participants also played a part in the winner selection.
“As orthopaedic surgeons, we need access to new procedures and technologies to elevate patient care through evidence-based practices,” said Jason L. Dragoo, MD, FAAOS, program emcee and chair of the DBT Committee. “OrthoPitch provides a unique platform to foster groundbreaking ideas and celebrate the innovative spirit that drives the future of musculoskeletal care. In this second year of the competition, being together at the AAOS Annual Meeting brought an electrifying energy to the process, offering finalists invaluable feedback and a one-of-a-kind opportunity to showcase their vision for transforming patient care.”
