Michael J. Leddy III, MD, FAAOS, Named Chair of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Board of Councilors

SAN DIEGO (March 12, 2025)—Louisiana orthopaedic surgeon Michael J. Leddy III, MD, FAAOS, was named chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) Board of Councilors (BOC). An expert in sports medicine, arthroscopy and complex shoulder reconstruction, Dr. Leddy will assume the chair position following the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Dr. Leddy has been an active leader within the AAOS, serving as a member of the AAOS Board of Directors (BOD) since 2023. His dedication to advancing the field of orthopaedics has led to appointments on key AAOS committees, including the OrthoPAC Executive Committee, Education Council, Research and Quality Committee, and the Coding, Coverage and Reimbursement Committee.

Dr. Leddy’s leadership extends to the AAOS BOC, where he served as representative for Louisiana and was then elected to serve as chair-elect and secretary before taking on the role of chair. His expertise and commitment to advancing orthopaedic care have been instrumental in shaping policy, education and advocacy efforts within the organization.

In addition to his AAOS service, Dr. Leddy has played a significant role in state-level advocacy. He is a past president of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association and has held numerous leadership positions within the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). His expertise has been sought after as a team physician for professional, collegiate and high school athletic programs, where he has provided expert care for athletes at all levels. Dr. Leddy’s commitment to orthopaedic excellence has earned him repeated recognition as a “Top Doctor” in Louisiana Life Magazine.

Dr. Leddy is senior partner of Mid State Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. He earned his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, followed by an orthopaedic surgical residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. He pursued an orthopaedic sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship at TRIA/The Orthopaedic Center in Minneapolis. Dr. Leddy is married to his wife Andree, a practicing attorney.  Together they have two daughters, Anna Clare and Mary Caitlin, both students at Louisiana State University.
