David S. Jevsevar, MD, MBA, FAAOS, named chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Research and Quality Council

CHICAGO (March 24, 2022)—New Hampshire orthopaedic surgeon David S. Jevsevar, MD, MBA, FAAOS, has been named chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) Research and Quality Council. He will assume the new position following the AAOS 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago, March 22-26, 2022.

The AAOS Research and Quality Council advances the application of scientific knowledge to improve the safety and effectiveness of musculoskeletal care. The Council educates AAOS Fellowship, public and public policymakers regarding clinical practice, regulatory affairs, standards, biologics, patient safety, occupational health, and other related areas of importance in orthopaedic care.

Combining medical and business acumen, Dr. Jevsevar is dedicated to high-quality, safe, high-value orthopaedic care. In addition to clinical excellence in hip and knee arthroplasty, he has worked to raise the standards in value-based orthopaedic medicine for most of his career. This has included assessing evidence-based care, program and care pathway development, quality, and performance improvement, and clinical- and patient-reported outcomes.

Dr. Jevsevar recently became CEO of OrthoVirginia. Previously, he was chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for seven years and associate professor of orthopaedics at the Geisel School of Medicine. He is also a member of the Orthopaedic Consultant Committee for Leapfrog Group and past member of committees on inpatient outcomes and orthopaedic institutional rankings for the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The breadth and depth of his leadership and involvement across AAOS have already made a significant impact on orthopaedic care. Most recently, he served as chair of the Committee on Devices, Biologics, and Technology, the Knee Osteoarthritis Clinical Practice Guidelines Work Group, and he was a member of the Registry Oversight Committee and Bylaws Committee. In addition, he previously chaired the Committee on Evidence-Based Quality and Value.

Integrating academic and clinical aspects of quality and safety, Dr. Jevsevar has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and presented throughout the nation to help medical professionals raise the bar in orthopaedic care.

Dr. Jevsevar received his medical degree from Georgetown University, Master of Business Administration from Auburn University, and Bachelor of Science in biology from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.
