Adam J. Bruggeman, MD, FAAOS, FAOrthA, Named Chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Advocacy Council
LAS VEGAS (March 9, 2023)—Texas orthopaedic spine surgeon Adam J. Bruggeman, MD, FAAOS, FAOrthA, was named chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Advocacy Council.
As the new chair of the AAOS Advocacy Council, Dr. Bruggeman is responsible for leading the AAOS’ efforts to promote and advocate the viewpoint of the orthopaedic community before federal and state legislative, regulatory and executive agencies. He will work closely with members of the Council to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the Association’s health policy activities and initiatives to position the AAOS as the trusted leader in advancing musculoskeletal health.
Dr. Bruggeman is an orthopaedic spine surgeon at the Texas Spine Care Center in San Antonio and adjunct faculty at University of Texas Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Bruggeman is committed to political advocacy and improving high-quality patient care. An active member of the AAOS, Dr. Bruggeman served as a member of the AAOS’ Board of Councilors and Health Care Systems Committee. He was also president of the Texas Orthopaedic Association from 2019-2020 and elected to the American Orthopaedic Association in 2021.
An early entrepreneur, Dr. Bruggeman is Chief Medical Officer at MSKai, Legent Health and MPOWERHealth. He was named “Emerging Leader” by the American Orthopaedic Association, a “Spine Surgeon Leadership Award” by Becker’s Healthcare and recognized as a Texas Super Doctors “Rising Star.”
Dr. Bruggeman earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center. He completed his orthopaedic residency at University of Florida followed by a spine fellowship at South Texas Spinal Clinic. He holds a master’s degree in hospital administration from Trinity University and bachelor’s in health administration and policy from Creighton University.
